Not Represented Right Now? Here's How to Find a New Acting Agency in NZ

Whether, you've decided to switch agencies, your agency has recently closed or you've never had representation and are ready to start looking — finding a new acting talent agency in New Zealand doesn't have to be overwhelming.

Here's what to actually look for, and how NZAT can help.

Why Actors End Up Looking for a New Agency

There are a lot of reasons an actor might suddenly find themselves without representation:

  • Your agency has not submitted you for any work recently

  • You never had an audition

  • You've outgrown your current agency and want a better fit

  • You're just starting out and haven't signed with anyone yet

  • Your agent has moved on and you weren't reassigned

  • You want an agency that's a better fit for the type of work you want

None of these mean you're back to square one. If anything, it's a good moment to reassess what you actually want from representation.

What to Look for When Switching Agencies

1. Actually check who they represent. Look at the current roster, not just the agency's name recognition. Are there actors at your experience level? Does the agency actively work with beginners, or only established talent?

2. Ask how submissions actually work. A good agency should be able to explain, clearly, how they submit talent for roles — not just "we'll be in touch."

3. Understand the agreement before you sign. Look at exclusivity terms, how long the agreement runs, and what happens if you want to leave later. A transparent agency will walk you through this without you having to ask twice.

4. Consider whether they specialise. General talent agencies are common, but agencies with strength in a specific area — like extras work, stunts, or commercial casting — can open doors a general agency might miss.

New to Acting and Never Had an Agency? That's Fine Too.

You don't need previous representation, credits, or experience to start. Plenty of working actors' first agency was the one that took a chance on them as a beginner. What matters more is being ready to put yourself forward, show up reliably, and take direction well.

Already Working and Experienced? We Want to See What You've Got

If you've already got credits, training, or an acting reel behind you, we'd genuinely love to see it. When you get in touch, it helps to include:

  • A link to your acting reel or showreel

  • Any acting classes, workshops, or training you've completed

  • Past credits or productions you've worked on

  • Your special skills (accents, stunts, sports, languages, etc.)

The more we can see of your work and training, the better placed we are to put you forward for the right roles.
